This, rapidly gaining popularity, game is usually played as doubles. It is a cross between table tennis,
badminton and tennis. Our group meets every Tuesday afternoon at Loughborough Leisure Centre, where we have 3 courts from 3.30 to 4.30pm.
Pickleball is played on a badminton sized court and although not as strenuous as other racket sports does require reasonable agility levels.
All the necessary
equipment is provided and a free (taster) session is offered, so you can come and see what the game is
about before making a decision about joining the group.
Once beyond an introductory period the basis of joining this Pickleball group is that you commit to paying ongoing group subscriptions (payable in 4 quarterly instalments of £18) or, if you do not renew for a quarter, you cease to be a group member. Rolling subscriptions does, invariably, mean that members will be paying for some weeks when they will be away, or otherwise not playing. Whilst sympathetic to those, when they cannot play through illness or injury, and who keep the group leader informed, others, whose group membership lapses, will have to reapply should they wish to rejoin the group.
If you want to learn more about Pickleball the (national) Third Age Trust has a helpful page with a number of links. This can be found at https://www.u3a.org.uk/learning/subjects/pickleball.
